A masterpiece sung by Doris Day (with The Mellomen and orchestra conducted by John Rarig). I find it magical.

Love, Humanity, Hope

We still have much love in humanity and this will always save hope and keep us looking towards a brighter horizon.

“You buy furniture. You tell yourself, this is the last sofa I will ever need in my life. Buy the sofa, then for a couple years you're satisfied that no matter what goes wrong, at least you've got your sofa issue handled. Then the right set of dishes. Then the perfect bed. The drapes. The rug. Then you're trapped in your lovely nest, and the things you used to own, now they own you.”

“An intellectual? Yes. And never deny it. An intellectual is someone whose mind watches itself. I like this, because I am happy to be both halves, the watcher and the watched. "Can they be brought together?" This is a practical question. We must get down to it. "I despise intelligence" really means: "I cannot bear my doubts.” --Albert Camus

The Lasso of truth is a weapon used by the DC Comics super-heroine Wonder Woman. It was forged by the Gods. The Lasso forces anyone held by it to tell and understand the absolute truth. (They say even Hercules cannot overcome it.)

Lasso of truth,  that is something which all (wonder) women have. Yeah, that is true in non-fictional world too. And I also believe it to be very metaphoric. I have met such (wonder) woman who used their lasso of truth and I spoke the truth by myself (even though I was trying to stop myself from blurting out the matter.)

For Desktops: Mouse will rule over other pointing devices

I don't think any pointing device  touchscreen or motion sensors could surpass the simplicity and ease of computer mouse. Using a mouse requires minimal movement of hands and fingers, you can rest you palm even while you move your mouse. So over a prolonged use, mouse should be more comfortable. The options like touchscreen and motion sensors will never replace the mouse for desktops, touchscreens are definitely better for hand-held devices but when it comes to desktop nothing beats the simple mouse.

(ps: Mouse technology has also evolved over time , ball --> optical --> laser technology.)

Every Breath You Take (The Police)

Sung by The Police on the band's 1983 album Synchronicity, written by Sting and Andy Summers, this was one of the biggest hits of 1983, topping the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for eight weeks and the UK Singles Chart for four weeks. It also topped the Billboard Top Tracks chart for nine weeks.
Sting won "Song of the Year" and The Police won "Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal" at the Grammy Awards of 1984 for "Every Breath You Take". The song ranked No. 84 on the Rolling Stone list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and No. 25 on Billboard's Hot 100 All-Time Top Songs. This song is considered to be The Police's signature song, and in 2010 was estimated to generate between a quarter and a third of Sting's music publishing income.  (source: en.wikipedia.org)

Lyrics:
Every breath you take
And every move you make
Every bond you break, every step you take
I'll be watching you

Every single day
And every word you say
Every game you play, every night you stay
I'll be watching you

Oh can't you see
You belong to me
How my poor heart aches
With every step you take

Every move you make
And every vow you break
Every smile you fake, every claim you stake
I'll be watching you

Since you've gone I been lost without a trace
I dream at night I can only see your face
I look around but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace

I keep crying baby, baby, please

Oh can't you see
You belong to me
How my poor heart aches
With every step you take

Every move you make
And every vow you break
Every smile you fake, every claim you stake
I'll be watching you

Every move you make, every step you take

I found it very true

Are you sometimes baffled by the many things you are doing or you got to do.
If yes, then what you need to learn is "How to Eat an Elephant?"
What I mean by eating an Elephant is that we can do even a humongous task, if we break it into small chunks and do one piece at a time.
Here is an article explaining how the multitasking habit of ours decreases our productivity.
Doing one thing at a time is important. (read here).

Uma Thurman's Name

Ever wondered about the name of the famous actress Uma Thurman. I was delighted to find out the story behind her name.

Uma Thurman's Dad Robert Thurman is an academician and Buddhist Scholar. He gave his children a Buddhist upbringing. He named is daughter after the Tibetan Term, Dbuma Chenpo. (here 'db' is silent and the term means "The Great Middle Way"). And her full name is 'Uma Karuna Thurman'.

And interestingly, she spent some of her childhood in Almora, Uttarakhand, India. ( I suspect an Indian twist in the 'Karuna', "Karuna' in the Indian Language, Hindi, means 'Compassion').
There is no such thing as coincidence.

Leap Day 2012

Fun Fact: According to Old Irish Traditions, on this day "women propose to men".
It began in 5th century when St.Bridget complained to St. Patrick about  the fair sex having to wait for men to propose. St. Patrick relented and he declared February 29 as the day which allows women to ask for a man's hand in marriage.
(This was also the pretext for the 2010 Amy Adams comedy "Leap Year".)

Also, in 1288 Queen Margaret in Scotland declared that on February 29 a women had the right to pop the question to any man she fancied. And most interestingly, the menfolk who refused were faced with a fine, (guess what) in the form of a kiss, a silk dress, or a pair of gloves given to the rejected lady (probably to hide the embarrassment of not having the ring on her fingers.)

So all in all, beware guys, or would it be better to say, be aware, and all the feminine folk, you can approach the man you fancied on this opportunity given by tradition and day.

To Blossoms

                                    by Robert Herrick (1591–1674)
FAIR pledges of a fruitful tree,
Why do ye fall so fast?
Your date is not so past,
But you may stay yet here awhile
    To blush and gently smile,
        And go at last.

What, were ye born to be
    An hour or half’s delight,
    And so to bid good-night?
’Twas pity Nature brought ye forth
    Merely to show your worth,
        And lose you quite.

But you are lovely leaves, where we
May read how soon things have
Their end, though ne’er so brave:
And after they have shown their pride
    Like you, awhile, they glide
        Into the grave.
“We ascribe beauty to that which is simple; which has no superfluous parts; which exactly answers its end.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Heart Of Gold

 And Listen to this

Love in Air

"Love doesn't make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile."

Love in Air

If I could reach up and hold a star for every time you've made me smile, the entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand.

Love in Air

I'll love you, dear, I'll love you till China and Africa meet and the river jumps over the mountain and the salmon sing in the street.

Shut Up

Most of us feel and complain that its a lonely world , its so puzzling, because we are the ones who can change this, it IS actually in our hands, if we just change to a more understanding, sincere, faithful and ego-less person.
I am amazed.
We are a bunch of living organisms, we have been given a planet and some resources, and we make a mess of it and make our own lives miserable, we compete and stand over each other shoulders.Gosh!!... Why can't we all live and love happily, why so many rules, why so much competition, don't tell me the "scarce resource" argument, the resources are scarce only because of our own stupidity, some of us consume much more than we need, some people bite off more than they can chew (more than that is healthy). If we could just live happily together with lesser rules, more open hearts and our conscience as clear as the sunny blue sky.

Summer is receding, I hope Autumn is not far behind.

Friends

There are some friends who are like angels. Even if you are not aware, they care for you. You think that they don't remember you, but you don't always see what goes in their hearts. The heart of a true friend is something unique, unparalleled. Just talking to them makes this weary life easier, everything lighter and a gossamer happiness seems to inhabit the air around you and your friend. Indeed we are blessed to have such friends.

Roses ...by George Eliot

You love the roses - so do I. I wish
The sky would rain down roses, as they rain
From off the shaken bush. Why will it not?
Then all the valley would be pink and white
And soft to tread on. They would fall as light
As feathers, smelling sweet; and it would be
Like sleeping and like waking, all at once!

FBI has released a Request for Information to determine the capability of IT Industry to create an  Application to monitor Social Media. They are looking for Open Source, and Social Media Alert, mapping and Analysis Application Solution. Seeing the brighter side, the FBI want to use the information collected from social media sites to better respond to crises and emerging threats.
The Document says that FBI wants to enhance its "open source actionable intelligence" collection abilities. It has to be a secure, flexible and lightweight web application. It must have the ability to change search parameters and  geo-locate the search results quickly.

"It is better to be in chains with friends , than to be in a garden with strangers."
-Persian Proverb

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

In itself, the insight is not new. The earliest records, to my knowledge, date back some 2500 years or more... the recognition ATMAN = BRAHMAN (the personal self equals the omnipresent, all-comprehending eternal self) was in Indian thought considered, far from being blasphemous, to represent the quintessence of deepest insight into the happenings of the world. The striving of all the scholars of Vedanta was after having learnt to pronounce with their lips, really assimilate in their minds this grandest of all thoughts.
Again, the mystics of many centuries, independently, yet in perfect harmony with each other (somewhat like the particles in an ideal gas) have described, each of them, the unique experience of his or her life in terms that can be condensed in the phrase: DEUS FACTUS SUM (I have become God).
To Western ideology, the thought has remained a stranger... in spite of those true lovers who, as they look into each other's eyes, become aware that their thought and their joy are numerically one, not merely similar or identical...

Native American Prayer

Look To The Earth
                                                  ....Kenneth Meadows
Look to the Earth And to the Skies The Sun, the Moon, and to the Stars You who would be wise.
For they contain the full measure of man The height, the breadth, the depth, the span
Of his entirety.

Look to the Earth And to the Skies And watch them turn Like pages of a holy book
But one untouched by human hand You who would be wise.

Look to the Earth And to the Skies For in that which can be seen Without Can true knowledge come
Of unseen mysteries that lie Within To you who would be wise.

Look to the Earth And to the Skies In Spring and Summer, Winter and in the Fall.
Watch life begin, unfold, then fade and die To rise anew Time and again for Time Untold
You who would be wise.

Look to the Earth And to the Skies And in your looking, learn this mystery:
That you who look to the Earth And to the Skies
Shall be given eyes to see Shall be given eyes
To make you wise Eternally.

I Hear the Plunging Music

My find of the day : Yoshida Brothers
The Yoshida Kyōdai (吉田兄弟) are Japanese musicians known for fusion of the rapid and percussive  Tsugaru-jamisen  style along with Western and other regional musical influences. (Tsugaru-jamisen is a traditional Japanese music style which originated in northern Japan.) Yoshida brothers have released several albums under the Domo Records.
They debuted in 1999 in Japan as a duo playing the shamisen. Their first album sold over 100,000 copies and made them minor celebrities in Japan, a fact that surprised the Yoshida Brothers themselves. They have since attracted an international audience.

Backronym?

Backronym is a word which has been "made into an acronym", even though it was not originally formed from one.
A backronym or bacronym is a phrase constructed purposely, such that an acronym can be formed to a specific desired word. Backronyms may be invented with serious or humorous intent, or may be a type of false or folk etymology.
Examples:
1) 'What does “SOS” stand for? Nothing. The letters “SOS” are an international distress signal, especially by ships and aircraft … Many believe “SOS” signifies “Save Our Ship” or “Save Our Souls”. However, these phrases were a later development, most likely to help remember the correct letters — a bacronym.'
2)  RAP: Rhythmically Aggressive Poetry
