webOS To Go Open Source

In a recent press release newly appointed CEO of HP Meg Whitman announced that webOS software will be made open source so as to leverage the interest of developers to improve the mobile operating system.
webOS, a mobile operating system based on Linux kernel seems to be loosing its allure. This move is an effort to reinvent webOS. webOS was developed by Palm and has featured on smartphones as well as Tablets. HP bought Palm for $1.2 billion in April 2010. Speculations are that the development of webOS will now be geared towards Tablets.
